    5M Lions are excited to host the Lion’s 92nd International Convention in July 2009!

    The 92nd Lions International Convention will be, held July 6-10, in Minneapolis / St Paul, Minnesota, USA. Minneapolis and St. Paul are commonly known as the “Twin Cities”, and are thriving Midwestern cities that boast strong support for the Lions, Lioness and Leos of the world.

    Plan on coming early or staying late, and take full advantage of the city’s unique offerings. Enjoy the recreation around the city’s 22 lakes; catch a play at the world-renowned Guthrie Theater or at 100 other acclaimed local theaters. Stroll through the pulse of Minneapolis’ central business district: Nicollet Avenue. Feast on numerous ethnic cuisines along Nicollet Avenue (also known as “Eat Street”).

    Parade Information

    The 2009 Lions International Convention Parade will be on Tuesday July 7. Step off is at 10 AM. We expect to have thousands of Lion delegates representing over 200 countries participate. Additionally, twenty marching bands will be performing. More details will be forthcoming.

    Tours and Events

    Several tours and events are planned:
    Twins / Yankees baseball game is on Wednesday July 8 at the Metrodome.
    Minnesota Lions Eye Bank Tour on Monday July 6 and Wednesday July 8.
    Riverboat Sight Seeing Cruise on Monday July 6.
    Riverboat Dinner Cruise on Monday July 6.
    Golf Outing at the renowned Hastings Country Club on Monday July 6.

    Volunteer Opportunities

    Over 800 MD5M Lion volunteers will be helping the make our guests feel welcome. If you are interested in helping with particular sub-committees, please see the “Volunteer” section of this website.

    Camper Information

    RV and Camper facilities will be available at the Minnesota State Fair Grounds. See the webpage under “Camper Info”.

    International Parade

    The International Parade through downtown Minneapolis will be on Tuesday July 7, 2009. Step off will be at 10 AM from the north end of downtown Minneapolis. The parade route will be along Nicollet Avenue and end at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

    Minnesota Lions Eye Bank Tour

    A tour of the Minnesota Lions Eye Bank near the University of Minnesota is planned for Monday July 6 and Wednesday July 8. Buses will leave the Minneapolis Convention Center every half hour beginning at 10:00 AM with the last bus departing at 1:30.

    The free tour of the world renowned Minnesota Lions Eye Bank will offer you a rare opportunity to discover first hand the important work that we Lions support. Click here for more information.

    Riverboat Cruise

    Mississippi River Boat Sight-Seeing Cruise

    Enjoy a scenic boat tour of the Mississippi River aboard the Jonathon Paddleford Riverboat. Sights along the way include downtown St. Paul, Pig’s Eye Cave, Pike Island, and Fort Snelling. Space is limited. Click here for more information.

    Mississippi River Boat Dinner Cruise

    The Host Committee invites you to a wonderful Dinner and Mississippi River cruise aboard the Anson Northrop Riverboat. Your package includes: transportation from the Convention Center to Harriet Island in St. Paul with return, the riverboat cruise, dinner, and live band entertainment. Space is limited.     Minnesota Twins Baseball Game

    The Minnesota Twins will be playing the New York Yankees at the Metrodome on Wednesday July 8 at 7:10 PM. The Minnesota Twins have put together a special package for LCI and the Host Committee. The Minnesota Twins will be making a donation to Lions Clubs International Foundation for each ticket. Click here for more information.

    Golf Outing

    A Lions Golf tournament is planned for Monday, July 6, 2009 at the historic Hastings Country Club, the home of the 2009 Minnesota State Amateur Tournament. The tournament is limited to 144 golfers. Click here for more information.

    The Host Committee is pleased to announce that camp ground RV sites will be available at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. The camp ground site is located at the southwest corner of Snelling Avenue North and Hoyt Avenue on the north side of the Fairgrounds. Click here for a map of the Fairgrounds and the location of the camp sites.

    A shuttle will run between the camp site and the convention center. The following page contains the reservation form. The form may be downloaded and mailed to the Camper Committee Chairpersion. 77 camp sites are available on a first come, first served basis so get your reservation in early.

    The Host Committee has been busy identifying our volunteer needs and defining job responsibilities. We estimate over 800 volunteers will be needed to accommodate our guests. Volunteers will be needed for:
    Sergeant-At-Arms;
    Airport Greeters;
    Hotel Hosts;
    Host Information Booth;
    Merchandise Booth;
    Parade Marshals;
    Transportation;
    DGE School.
    Interpreters;

    You may complete and submit the volunteer form on-line or you may download the form and either fax or mail the form to the Volunteer Recruiting Chair. With your information, we can keep you informed about volunteer opportunities.

    Please note that some of the jobs may involve certain physical requirements such as the ability to stand for a long time, be subject to the July heat, or the ability to carry heavy objects.
